A friend of mine sent me this article which I think is interesting. It talks about CEO’s who have been interviewed about being disciplined as a child. I think you will find it interesting too.

In the article it shows that most CEO’s have been disciplined during childhood. The also attribute that this discipline has helped them in their careers.

I know as I grew up my parents were very strict. Discipline was common in my house. At the time I really resented what happened. In fact for a long period of time I didn’t want to be around my parents because of it.

Now that I look back though I have learned some valuable lessons although painful at times.

Can you relate?

The discipline at the time was not fun for sure. However it did keep me on the right path. I feel that today I am better off because of it. When I see my two cousins that were rarely disciplined and see how their lives are I can see a big difference.

My cousins are having a much bigger challenge succeeding in life. I believe because they were allowed to get away with so many things as they grew up, they have no self discipline to get things done.

As an Entrepreneur you must have self-discipline. If you lack self-discipline I guarantee that you will fail miserably. Let me explain…

When you have a job you have a manager. Your manager tells you what to do, when to do it, and sometimes even how to do it. You know that if you don’t perform the way your manager expects there are consequences. You could lose your job, couldn’t you?

And if you don’t lose your job you certainly will be viewed as less valuable and when layoffs come around guess who will be on that list?

Right! You will.

Self-discipline is crucial to have. Many people today have little or none and more alarming is when you see children who are old enough to know better totally out of control acting like a 2 year old.

I was at the mall a while back and I saw this girl maybe about 10 years old with her parents. She was laying in the middle of the floor screaming at the top of her lungs because her parents didn’t want to buy here something and they were attempting to leave the mall.

Now can you imagine that?

I was mortified when I saw that. I knew when I was growing up that if I did something like that I would be disciplined and it would have ended right then and there. My parents would never have let me get away with that.

I felt sorry for the child because this went on for quite some time. This child will have severe problems later in life when she has to go into the real world and make a living. Do you think your boss will put up with that type of behavior?

Absolutely not!!!

I guarantee you that person would be fired fast. Would you want someone like that working for you?

As an Entrepreneur it becomes even more critical… because now you have to answer to yourself. Also, you only get paid what you are worth. And if you are not disciplined you will get nothing done therefore you will be paid nothing.

Do you get it?

I sure hope so. Being an Entrepreneur takes discipline. You must constantly be producing otherwise you will starve.

If you currently lack discipline, that’s ok. There is still hope for you.

Discipline is a learned behavior. That’s good news!

Take regular consistent Action. Monitor yourself and your progress. Don’t start off with too much. Use simple tasks and work your way up to larger ones. The key is to keep moving and do the things you know you have to even if you might not feel like doing them.
