Traditional Schooling Hurts Entrepreneurs

The traditional education system is not what we have been led to believe it is. We are told that we have a great education system and that our kids are learning the right things to become successful.

The truth is the only thing our kids are learning in the traditional school system is how to be employees. They are learning a lot of useless things that really won’t help them in the real world. Not only that but because of the way the school system is set up many kids are actually being held up and slowed down.

Now don’t start blaming the teachers. It’s not their fault. They have to do what the system tells them to do. Remember they are just employees who do what they are told.

There has been many articles about how our nation as a whole is being dumbed down. Tests that are given these days are becoming easier so more kids can pass them. Does this seem like a problem to you or is it just me?

A graduate of our Entrepreneur Training Seminars sent me an interesting article which I wanted to share with you. It’s about the difference between traditional education and home school education. I think you will be amazed by what it says.

The article shows some serious problems with our traditional school system. I personally went through the traditional school system and never felt like I really received a good education. As an Entrepreneur this becomes even more critical!

Let me explain…

As children we are sponges. We learn very quickly. And what ever our minds are filled with gets absorbed. Children believe everything because they have no references to compare with and in the early stage of development the critical factors are not there yet to reject information.

As we grow up we are taught by our parents until we go to school. If your parents spent a lot of time with you and taught you the basics you may be far ahead of the rest of the crowd by the time you get to school.

Chances are that your parents just like mine didn’t spend that much time with you. That’s not all bad though. They did the best job they could with the information they had. You can’t blame them.

Most likely your parents at this early stage of development taught you about money and having a job like mine did. If your parents worked at a job and were paid by an employer for their work they most likely talked about this with you in their presence. Even though they may not have directly explained things to you, you were intently listening trying to figure out what was going on.

Kids are curious and they want to learn everything. So your parents most likely taught you that you have to have a job to make money and that there was never enough money when you work in a job.

Sound familiar?

This was a description of my family.

To continue our education… we went to school and we had teachers that taught us. Now let’s think about what teachers are. Teachers are employees aren’t they?

Of course they’re employees. So the only thing that a teacher can teach you is how to be a good employee. How can they possibly teach you how to Become an Entrepreneur being an employee themselves.

Even in Harvard Business School you don’t learn how to Be an Entrepreneur. This seems contradictory to popular belief… But it’s true. They only teach you how to be a better employee.

Let’s examine Harvard Business School more closely and you will see what I am telling you. The professors at Harvard Business School have a what?

A Job!

Since the professors have a job and no practical experience being an Entrepreneur, how can they possibly teach you to how to run your own business and be successful if they haven’t done it themselves?

Quite frankly, it’s impossible.

If you attended Harvard Business School you will only learn how to get a better job. That’s it. That’s all they can train you for. If they teach you how to run your own business it is purely theory. There’s no practical experience behind the theory.

Don’t believe me? That’s ok. Don’t take my word for it. Ask my friend and coauthor of Wealth Without a Job, Phil Laut who went to Harvard Business School and failed miserable as an Entrepreneur early on.

Now if you went to a regular college do you think it’s going to be any better?

Absolutely not!

I have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering for Illinois Institute of Technology and quite frankly the only thing it ever did was get me a better position in corporate America. It actually hurt me becoming an Entrepreneur.

The way I succeeded was I had to unlearn what I learned at school and Learn Entrepreneur Skills. I learned from people who succeeded as Entrepreneurs instead of going to back to school. You can only learn from mentors who have been there and done that.

So if you want to Become a Successful Entrepreneur you must Find a Mentor Who is a Successful Entrepreneur and Learn from that Person.

Unfortunately we can’t start over as kids. Now that you know better you can educate your kids if you have them to think differently and help them become independent and successful Entrepreneurs so they don’t have to go through what you and I did.

It’s not too late for you either. I was able to retrain my mind to think like an Entrepreneur and so can you. It’s simple and easy but it does take commitment on your part. Without commitment it will never work. Most people give up too quickly…
