Entrepreneurs Look for Inspiration to Succeed

Last night I watched a movie on television. Now this is a rare occasion for me.

This movie though was very inspirational and that is why I watched it. This movie inspired me to be so much more and look at my obstacles much differently than I had been doing.

This movie also taught me some valuable lessons and inspired me to do even more and take more risks.

Do you want to know which movie I watched?

Alright I’ll tell you.

But before I do, let me tell you that I believe this is a great movie to watch and should be part of your library.

The movie is called “Men of Honor”.

It is about the first black person who became a Navy diver. This person had a dream and a passion to become a master diver. This person had a burning passion to achieve that dream and would not let anything stop him from getting what he wanted.

This great hero started off as a cook and went through so much adversity and had so many obstacles…

Imagine being a black person in the mid 1940’s when discrimination was still at large against black people. Most of the military personnel were white and black people typically had menial jobs such as cooks and cleaning duties.

The main character Carl was inspired by his father to be more than he was. He took tremendous risks because everyone else around him wanted him to fail.

They didn’t want to see a black person succeed…

Can you imagine that?

Carl fought through the discrimination that was dished out and always saw himself above what was being said about him. He knew it was not real. The others including his trainer Billy Sunday sabotaged his efforts yet he was still victorious. Several times it nearly cost him his life.

Carl did become the first black diver. But he wasn’t finished yet and the adversity to come was still huge.

He had an accident which disabled him. One of his legs wasn’t fully functional any longer. Did that stop him?

Absolutely Not!

Carl was a true champion and he never gave up. He wanted to be a master diver so bad and his passion burned so deep that he went as far as having his leg amputated and had a prosthetic leg put on.

Would you do that?

Most of us wouldn’t. But it didn’t end there…

Now he still had to build up his muscles and pass a rigorous test in order to become a diver again. He worked very hard for the next 12 weeks to build himself back up to pass the test.

Did Carl make it you might be wondering?

Not yet. The head of the navy was totally against having a black diver especially one that was disabled. Fortunately his trainer Billy admired the person for going through what he did so helped him succeed. He realized he was wrong about Carl.

Carl took the test and passed it even being disabled because his spirit would not let him quit. He also had lots of support from Billy and his family.

He knew he could do it and he took charge of his destiny. He would not be denied.

He succeeded and started diving again. Two years later he made the rank of master diver.

What an inspiring story. As an Entrepreneur that is exactly the kind of fire you must have in order to succeed. When you are living your life on purpose anything is possible. Just like the navy diver in this story you too can achieve greatness.
