Entrepreneurs Never Fear Layoffs

Here we go again. If you have a job this should be a clear message to all of you that there is no such thing as job security. When I saw these articles I remembered what it was like having a job.

The first article is Schering-Plough plans to cut 1,100 jobs due to the pharmaceutical industry recovery. The second article is Heinz profit falls, plans 2,700 job cut. This is pretty self-explanatory. The last article is Sun Micro set to cut as many as 5,000 jobs because they are loosing market share for what they offer.

The bottom line is 8800 jobs are lost in just one day. All these people are relying on one source of income are now going to be looking for work.

The challenging part is no matter what company these unemployed people go to they will have to first sell themselves (which is the hardest sale to make especially when you have lots of other people via for the same positions) and then they still face the risk of being down sized.

The key to remember is a job has no security. It is only an illusion. Look at the different reasons the companies have given for letting a large amount of people go: the industry is recovering, the profits are down, and the competition is killing us.

As an Entrepreneur you never have to worry about being down sized. The only person that can down size you is you!

Entrepreneurs are also more nimble and able to shift more quickly with the market. When you have a job especially with a large company it is like trying to turn a battleship on a dime. It’s not going to happen. It takes a long time to change.

Large corporations are too slow to react to what is going on and the first thing they do is down size. That is actually the worst thing they can do and that seems to be the standard practice.

Next time you think that being an Entrepreneur is risky look at these articles. I guarantee you that being an Entrepreneur is far less risky than working for someone else.
