Do You Feel Like an Entrepreneur Workaholic?

Many entrepreneurs don’t understand that it is important to take some down time. Read my blog entry about Work Less and Make More Money. A friend who has a job and his own business discovered what I was saying about working too much was true and sent me this article.

The article is actually quite scary. People are being hypnotized into thinking that working longer hours is good. Workaholism is being promoted by major corporations to get more out of their workers without having to pay more. What you are seeing is more people are burning out at a faster rate.

Working too many hours can transfer over to your business. As entrepreneurs we are compelled to work hard on our business. Because we get paid for our results sometimes we take this too far.

I remember when I first started as an entrepreneur. I worked 16 hours a day. I had fun working on my business. Even though I loved what I was doing I was starting to burn out. I knew I had to get balance back in my life. So I backed off a bit. What I discovered was I was more productive when I took time off.

The problem with working too much is you burn out and then loose all desire to do what you have been doing. This may not seem all bad but even a good thing can be too much as well.

I remember when I first bough my motorcycle. It is a 1996 Harley Davidson Dyna Convertible. It is a sweet bike to ride. When I first purchased it I rode it all the time. To a point where I would take it out every night and on the weekends.

After a while I started to ride less and less. It is because I was riding too much that created an unbalanced lifestyle. Even though it was a fun thing to do it was too much of a good thing.

Now look at your work. As an entrepreneur if you work too many hours even though you may love what you do, you will eventually resent it and burn out.

Remember doing things in moderation will get you much further as an entrepreneur.

So go ahead and take some time off, do something fun, Read a Good Book or Listen to some Good CD’s for a while. You’ll be glad you took some time off.

To Your Success,
Andy Fuehl
