They’re Dragging Me Off To Court…

I can’t believe it.  They’re dragging me off to court!

As you read the first sentence, what were you thinking?  Were you thinking something positive or something negative?

Just make a mental note which direction your mind went because this will be important to you in your job or as an Entrepreneur.

The truth is I was called to go to jury duty.  That’s it.  Now what are you thinking?

Was it a lot different than what you originally thought?  I bet it is.

Yes, tomorrow I will be on jury duty which brings me to one of the Next Biggest Business Challenge.  How are we thinking about everything that’s going on in our lives?

Now I could be all bummed out about jury duty like most people are.  Most people look at it as something they dread to do because they’re not thinking right.  As Zig Ziglar would put it, they’ve got stinkin thinkin!

Everyone wants more business but when opportunities like this arise the thinking is it’s a waste of time and I should be out prospecting instead. Or I should be working on my business doing ____________ fill in the blank.

But here’s the deal.  This is something that you may have overlooked completely.  You’re actually sitting on top of a gold mine if you change you thinking just a little bit.

Have I got your attention yet?

Good.

Instead of thinking this is a complete waste of time think about it as an opportunity to network with all the other people that are stuck there with you.  You have a captive audience and you can use it to your advantage.

As an Entrepreneur you have to look at every situation you’re in as an opportunity to connect with others.  Because the bottom line is this, money comes from other people and if you don’t talk to other people you don’t get any money.

The challenge is usually one of two things.  Either you’re too afraid to talk to others or you’re mind is in the toilet and you’re missing the opportunity.  Either one isn’t good.

Let’s look at the first instance…

It’s Time To Let It Go.

If you’re afraid to talk to people, you’re going to have a tough time.  I know business would be so much easier if you didn’t have to deal with people.

But guess what?

Who’s going to pay you if it’s not coming from people?

You get the point.  The real question is what are you afraid of?  Are you afraid that others are going bite you if you talk to them?  Are you afraid that they’re going to abuse you?  What do you really think is going to happen?

The truth is if you have this challenge, you’re afraid of rejection!

There I said that dreaded “R” word.

So the real question is, why do you fear rejection?  Think about it right now and write down your answer on a piece of paper.  Go ahead and do that now.  If you decide not to do this exercise right now, then read the Wealth Builder Blog Article about Ending Procrastination because you have a bigger problem.  Then come back and finish this article.

Ok, did you write down why you fear rejection?

What I’ve learned about the fear of rejection is we usually have the wrong perception about what it really means.  That’s why the fear comes up.  Most people believe that when someone says no to them, that they are saying no to the person.

This is so far from the truth!

The truth is, when someone says no to you, what they’re really telling you is no to your offer.  It has nothing to do with you, your self worth, your person, or anything else about you.

Now doesn’t that make you feel better already?

I’m sure it does.  So let’s look at how you can use this in a practical way that will put more money in your pocket and make you rejection proof all at the same time.

The reason this is the case is because it’s a numbers game.  Not everyone is going to say yes and in order to get a yes; you’re going have to collect some no’s along the way, aren’t you?

That’s right, you are.  Now, if you collect 10 no’s before you collect a yes and your yes earns you $100.00, how much is each no worth?

$10.00 Right!

Now doesn’t it make you feel better about getting rejected?  In fact, I love being rejected because I know each time I get rejected; I’m one step closer to having someone give me money and I get paid for each no I collect.  I love it!

When I go to court tomorrow what do you think I’m going to be doing?

You got it!  I’m going to be talking to a lot of people and getting rejected.  I’m also going to do some other things as well and I’ll share that with you in the next Wealth Builders Blog article.  This will cover the second thing I was talking about earlier which is how your perception is working against you in building your business.

Thanks for offering a good article to all of us. These little steps on the road to self-development add up and when folks look back at the journey they’ve undergone they’ll see how the little steps have added up to a great distance.

Hi Andy,

This has been a big issue for me since I am a “pleaser” and struggle with the “rejection” issue. Although I love to visit with people, I hesitate to talk “business” because I don’t want people to run from me..so to speak! But with that said, I will start keeping a journal of yes’s and no’s, and will work on the internal attitude toward getting no’s while setting a goal of numbers to reach more people.

This article is great! I never looked at rejection the way you explained it. From now on, I will look at a “NO” as dollars signs and to the big payoff. This is just fantastic! Thanks again!

As a result of reading the Rejection article, I have decided to see rejection as an opportunity for me to ask better questions to identify the customers needs, and thus present my pitch more appropriately.

Rejection - its a way of being re-directed to success!
